Alex Smith Appointed as Volkswagen’s New Director

Alex Smith will be replacing Robert Hazelwood as the director of Volkswagen passenger cars. Leaving his current position as director of Volkswagens commercial vehicles, Smith will start his new position on July 1st 2014. Hazelwood is leaving Volkswagen after starting as director of Passenger cars in 2012.

Smith (39) who has been working for Volkswagen since 2007, previously worked for Ford and Kia holding responsibility for fleet, operations, aftersales, marketing and planning. He is hoping to continue the success he had as director of commercial vehicles as this sector saw a 16.5% rise in registrations at the start of 2014. He said: “I’m excited to be returning to the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand knowing that Commercial Vehicles is setting new records.
